Kothamangalam Seenu

A well-known Tamil theatre and film actor, Seenu was one of the senior-most artists of south Indian cinema. He was also a trained Carnatic singer and was actively associated with the world of arts. Kothamangalam is the name of a place in Ramnad district, which he later adapted as his screen name.
During the 1930s and 1940s, owing to his melodious vocals, expertise in Carnatic music and acting skills, he was one of the eminent singing stars in Tamil Cinema. Seenu acted in noted films like Sarangadhara (1935), Kacha Devayani (1941), Ekambavanan (1947).

This interview was conducted by Randor Guy on January 8, 1988 at Adyar, Madras (Chennai) while Kothamangalam Seenu was 78.
Madabhushi Rangadorai, fondly known as Randor Guy is a well-known author, columnist and film historian, and also a lawyer by profession. He has written books like “Memories of Madras: Its Movies, Musicians & Men of Letters”, “A History of Tamil Cinema”, “Starlight, Starbright: The Early Tamil Cinema”. Guy has also written fiction novels like “Chaya” and “Kasi”.
