V. Gopalakrishnan

Venkataraman Gopalakrishnan born in 1933 was a veteran actor in Tamil cinema. Fondly known as Gopi, he was mostly known for playing supporting roles. Active for more than five decades from the late 1940s to 1990s, he appeared in a substantial number of films. Interestingly, he started out as a child artist performing in stage plays and went on to become one of the most popular character actors in Tamil cinema.

This interview was conducted by Randor Guy on January 11th, 1988 at Gopi’s residence at T. Nagar, Madras while he was 65.

Guy has also written fiction novels like “Chaya” and “Kasi”.
