Vishnupant Jog

A veteran artist in Marathi cinema Vishnupant Jog was born on 18th September 1905. He is mostly remembered for playing ‘Gundyabhau’ in iconic adaptations of C.V. Joshi's popular satires. His chemistry with Damuanna Malvankar (as Chimanrao) formed an iconic duo of ‘Chimanrao- Gundyabhau’ in popular films like Lagna Pahave Karun (1940) and Sarkari Pahune (1942). Vishnupant Jog’s association with filmmaker Master Vinayak was notable, his other important films with him include Brahmachari (1938), Brandichi Batli (1939) and Gajabhau (1944). Jog also played memorable characters in Marathi theatre and worked as a musician in films & theatre.

This interview was conducted by Bapu Watve on 19 th June 1987 in Pune while Vishnupant Jog was 82.
Bapu Watve was a renowned author on subjects relating to cinema, and studious researcher. He is known for books like “Ek Hoti Prabhat Nagari”, “Bhartiya Charitramala: Dadasaheb Phalke” and “Bhartiya Cinemache Janak”.
