V.V. Bapat:

Born on 18th March 1914, VV Bapat was a well-known film distributor, producer, writer and journalist. Bapat started his career as a reporter and also used to write reviews on films. Then he started his own weekly magazine – Chhaya during the early 1940s. As a part of his reporting and film journalism job, Bapat got into contact with many actors and filmmakers which lead him to become a film distributor first and then producer. He also worked as publicity manager for notable films including Shyamchi Aai (1953) by Acharya Atre.



This interview was conducted by Bapu Watve on 5th Dec 1988. while VV Bapat was 75.

Bapu Watve was a renowned author on subjects relating to cinema, and studious researcher. He is known for books like “Ek Hoti Prabhat Nagari”, “Bhartiya Charitramala: Dadasaheb Phalke” and “Bhartiya Cinemache Janak”.
