A. S. A. Sami

Arul Soosai Anthony Sami is a well-known name in Tamil cinema. Fondly known as A. S. A. Sami, he was a director and screenwriter in Tamil films. Sami’s career took off when his play ‘Bilhanan’ broadcasted on All India Radio, starring M. K. Thyagaraja Bhagavatharin in the leading role. Later the play was adapted into a film.

Sami debuted in the direction with M. G. Ramachandran starrer Rajakumari (1947). Interestingly, another well-known politician and a popular writer in Tamil cinema M. Karunanidhi assisted Sami back then in writing.

Thuli Visham (1954), Needhipathi (1955), Muthu Mandapam (1962), etc are some of his other noted films.
